Day 151 - The Conclusion of the Pichon Era

Today we had the concluding lecture from Mr. Pichon.

This lecture was about modern warfare (not the video game).

Mr. Pichon started out by going right into the lecture, talking about WWI. In this war, trench warfare was all the rage. Essentially, there were so many casualties because generals were trying to fight these modern wars with ancient tactics, which led to massive amounts of deaths.

The problem, in reality, was the total war trap. In order for the war to be at the intensity it was at, they needed a large portion of the economy to be targeted towards the war. This would lead to 70-90% of the economic focus on war, which lead to less food and other necessary stuff. The biggest problem was when the war was ended, however. One couldn't simply end the war and then everything would return back to normal... you kinda have to continue to stay in war for it to work, because if you stop it essentially you will collapse.

Then, moving onto WWII, he talked about how now generals knew how to better marshal their troops, but casualties were still high. Also, airplanes and cars were in this war.

So then, moving into the Cold War, Mr. Pichon talked about how essentially it was a contest of total-warring, and eventually the Soviets couldn't keep it up anymore. This war was "cold" because it was the first time nukes could be used, not only against each other but to essentially end the existence of humans on this planet.

Then, he started talking bout' the most powerful military force in the world right now. Merica'. We got the seas, we got the air, and we got a good pro army. This sounds all good, and to an extent it is, but he also mentioned how the army is sucking up lots of money. Like a lot of money.

Onto his final topic, he talked about insurgents. These are people that essentially are from countries, and really small groups,  that can't compete with the U.S. in terms of firepower. So, they use civilian technology for weapons, and do stuff like suicide attacks that aren't costly for them, but are very costly for the U.S. He mentioned how they aren't evil, just desperate. I see where he's coming from, but don't completely agree with the statement; just because you're desperate doesn't mean you need to go out and cause massive casualties. That's easy for me to say though, as I'm not in their shoes though, so I can't truly understand their paradigm.

With only two days remaining of actual classes, I only see two more blogs in WHAP Jack's future. It's been a good run boys, but make sure to tune in to tomorrow and Friday's entries. Friday is going to be my FINAL WHAP reflection, revealing all tips, tricks, thoughts, cheat codes, and maybe even guiding information for young WHAPPERS next year. Thursday... well lets just say on my second to last entry I'm gonna have some fun with it. That is all.

With that, the bell rang and we were dismissed. Until Tomorrow!
