Day 141 - Social Studies

Today in WHAP we had a discussion.

We started off class today by watching a video. Essentially, a reporter who has always been pretty neutral is moderating a debate between two opposing political parties at a college. So the two students are arguing, having a very heated debate, and the reporter is tuning in and out of the argument. Both of them are just yelling, not really listening to what the other side is saying.

The reporter imagines an old flame in the audience, and when the question is asked why is America the greatest country in the world, both of the students give pretty stereotypical answers. The old flame of the reporter is holding up a sign that says it isn't, in reference to America not being the best country.

The professor tries to get an answer out of the reporter, but the reporter keeps making coy little statements and won't answer the question. After several attempts, the reporter decides to answer, and starts going off on the people, surprising everyone with his strong views and all of a sudden fierce demeanor.

He made points saying how the only statistics they were highest in were have the most incarcerated prisoners and other negative stats, also emphasizing how they aren't the only country with freedom for its citizens.

In class today, everyone picked a side whether they agreed, disagreed, or were in the middle in agree-ability with his arguments. No one agreed, but there were some agrees and middle fellows.

It seemed like most people in the middle felt that while his points were true, there were still some great things about America, while those that agreed well...agreed.

No Clicker quizzes today, so I suppose we'll have them later in the week.

With that the bell rang and we were dismissed. Until Tomorrow!
